Web design trends change over time. Every year new design styles along with new website technology get invited and become popular. New ideas streamline old ways of designing websites. Also companies make changes into what they think makes a good website takes hold and mature over the months leading up to the new year. 

10 Website Design Trends for 2020

  1. Live Chat:
    Live chat provides an easy way for customers to interact with the business or owner of the site. It is not just for businesses anymore. You can have Facebook Messenger on your website, so if a visitor messages you on your website or on Facebook you will get notified if you have Messenger on your phone. It is very easy and not hard to setup. You can even set-up automated messages to go to your visitors to offer them help or information about your services and direct them to helpful information so they can easily navigate your website.
  2. Minimalist Design:
    Minimalist design trends have been popular over the past 2 years, and it will probably remain highly recommended. Because Googles want you to provide as much value as possible without providing the fluff. A minimalist design also provides a better user experience.
  3. Minimal Navigation Menus:
    Mega menus and nested links are in the past because Google is pushing a Mobile First approach to web design. Nested menus do not provide the greatest user experience on a mobile platform. Minimal navigation also provide a cleaner user experience. Also a good way to design navigation for mobile devices is with icons of what your navigation represents especially for the main areas of your website. And if you do use a nested menu item use the hamburger menu. The recommended menu items are 3-5 links in the top tier.
  4. Micro-Interactions:
    These are UI animations that communicate action to users and create a more immersive experience. These include percentage counters when you upload a file or fill out a contact form or shopping cart.
  5. Voice Design and Interaction:
    Voice search is an emerging technology that is becoming more popular, and you can do a lot of nice things if you are careful with your design. It still has a way to go before it is mature enough where everyone is using it, but start doing research now and talk to your designers about it. Optimizing for voice search will be crucial for visibility on Google and other search engines.
  6. SEO is Still Important:
    Site speed is still important 70% of consumers admit that page speed influences their likeliness to buy. But also during 2019 only 3% of marketers said they optimized their website for speed, but site speed isn’t the only thing that influence SEO. You need to consider:
    1. Website structure
    2. Navigation
    3. Layout
    4. Content quality
    5. Content placement
    6. Internal links
    7. Use of JavaScript for dynamic content
    8. Mobile optimization
    9. Intrusive content such as popups, autoplay video, ads etc.
  7. Accessibility:
    Web designers need to implement good accessibility for their website.
  8. Content-Centric Design:
    Design your website around your content. This is so important because the more helpful content you are able to provide in different ways the more you are able to share it across all your channels and social media. The more useful content you have the more likely you will be picked up by Google.
  9. Scheme Markup:
    Scheme Markup is used to tell search engines what type of data and content they are looking at, and provides a way to format the content into a special way that distinguishes it from the other content on Google.
  10. Images Are Power:
    Using the right images on your website provides your website with power. It makes your article or content more readable and easy to scan.
